Dr. Robert Earl "Bob" Smith died April 18, 2012.
Born May 12, 1933, in San Carlos, Calif., Bob attended Redwood High, Stanford University and San Francisco College of Dentistry. In 1957-58, after becoming an orthodontist, he worked in dentistry for the U.S. Army in Weisbaden, Germany. It was from there that he traveled to Kitzbuehel every weekend, solidifying his desire to ski. In 1960 he transitioned from the Army to his private practice in Marin County, Calif., specializing in children's dental problems.
In 1964 Bob married his wife, Jean, with whom he remained for 48 years. Shortly after that, his passion for skiing led them to Alta, Utah, where weather conditions and fogging goggles were the catalysts for Bob's invention of the modern double-lens ski goggle. With the help of his wife and his orthodontist skills, the two manufactured early goggle prototypes around the kitchen table, ultimately forming the world-renowned company Smith Sport Optics. Smith's design and technology proved to be so effective that the uses have expanded all the way from the ski slopes to the U.S. military. Bob's enthusiasm for life continued well into retirement. As a pilot, he and his wife traveled extensively, seeing the world his way—fast! He was always reading and absorbing information, and there were very few subjects that he was not well educated on. He never lost his thirst for knowledge, taking on every challenge as though it were his first and as important as the last. Bob is survived by his wife, Jean; their two sons Andrew and Colby (Diane); and his four grandchildren, Carter, Finn, Mckenzie and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his son Carter. We will always remember him as a pioneer, entrepreneur and loving father. He will be dearly missed. Always remember—"It's a Smith kind of day."
It began as a party, grew into a band, evolved into a sound, and emerged as an institution. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band (aka the Booty Band) has gone through many changes since their fated onset in 2002. Today they are ready to shake the world, one cheek at a time.
The band’s first official studio release, Now You Know, debuted in 2007 to critical acclaim. The Booty Band received Home Grown Music Network’s Album of the Year and Band of the Year awards, as well as the #3 best regional album from WNCW, one of the top Triple A stations in the country. Awe-inspiring live shows, powerful original compositions, and crowd-pleasing presentations have helped the Booty Band build a rock-solid nationwide fanbase. Having completed three national tours in 2010 alone, the band has worked hard and done well to keep this fanbase fired up and growing fast. They have secured headlining slots at many prestigious festivals including Wakarusa, Jam Cruise, Bear Creek, Jazz Aspen, Long Beach Funk Fest, Rock Boat, Bele Chere (six consecutive years), Floyd Fest, and Smile Fest
"Snowboarders talk about progression, but evolution is a better way to describe the influential two-decade career of Wyatt Caldwell. From defining film footage, stunning images and street rail mastery to a resume stacked with a Grand Prix Halfpipe Championship, a Transworld Magazine cover and Vans Cup wins in multiple disciplines—Wyatt has made his mark on the international contest circuit and the national professional stage.
But as Wyatt's style has evolved, his focus has shifted from X Games and Dew Tour Slopestyle stops to the untracked terrain park of the backcountry. In this venue he has applied his free-reign style to long powder spines, huge pillow stacks and AK cliff lines with a clean, technical result. Now part of the YES movement, Wyatt has migrated from the Mammoth and Salt Lake scenes back home to Sun Valley and the surrounding ranges where he first learned to ride."

The Sun Valley Wellness Institute is pleased to announce that best-selling author and renowned brain scientist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor will be delivering the keynote presentation to kick off the 2012 Sun Valley Wellness Festival held over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Her presentation will be held Friday evening, May 25, 6:00pm at the Sun Valley Resort.
Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a Harvard-trained and published neuroanatomist, experienced a severe hemorrhage in the left hemisphere of her brain in 1996. On the afternoon of this rare form of stroke (AVM), she could not walk, talk, read, write, or recall any of her life. It took eight years for Dr. Taylor to successfully rebuild her brain - from the inside out. In response to the swelling and trauma of the stroke, which placed pressure on her dominant left hemisphere, the functions of her right hemisphere blossomed. She is the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir about her recovery from her stroke and the insights she gained into the workings of her brain, entitled My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey.
In 2008, Dr. Taylor gave a presentation at the TED Conference in Monterey, CA, which has become the second most viewed TED Talk of all time. This now famous 18-minute presentation catapulted her story into the public eye. As a result, she was chosen as one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2008. In addition, Dr. Taylor was the premiere guest on Oprah Winfrey's Soul Series web-cast and was interviewed by Oprah and Dr. Oz on The Oprah Winfrey Show in October, 2008, and that interview was just rebroadcast on Oprah’s OWN in January 2012. Her story is being made into a feature film directed by Ron Howard.

She firmly believes that the most important relationship we each have is the relationship between our logical, rational, verbal left brain, and its counterpart - our creative, intuitive, thinking in pictures right hemisphere. She helps us understand how our two brains work together to create a single seamless perception of reality, and what is going on inside our heads when we experience personal conflict.
