Fly fishing the Northern Rockies in September is an extremely enjoyable experience. With the heat of summer mostly behind us, the shorter days and cooler temperatures bring out new hatches and a return to larger insects such as the Western Red Quill, the Mahogany Dun and October Caddis. The Fall Baetis, although diminutive in size, becomes a behemoth in the feeding selection of local trout, not only on Silver Creek but on our local freestones as well. The Wood River Land Trust closed on its largest land acquisition in the organization's history on August 13th. Registration is now open for the first Trail Creek 12K Trail Run scheduled for October 30, 2010. A classic trail run with buffed-out single track, a few up's and down's and views that will make you want to run the loop twice. The SVO Pet of the Week is Grasshopper! Sweet, handsome Grasshopper was apparently abandoned and decided to go looking for a new home on her own. Those involved in this week’s much discussed beginning of direct discussions between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were rudely introduced to the realities of the region when Palestinian gunmen shot and killed four Israeli settlers outside of the city of Hebron on the West Bank. Hamas, which in the recent months has observed a ceasefire, immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Idaho and the Intermountain West need to lead the nation "to transform its energy system to reduce its carbon intensity and make clean energy cheap," according to a policy brief released Wednesday, Sept. 1, by the Brookings Institution, Mountain West division.

The brief is entitled "Centers of Invention: Leveraging the Mountain West Innovation Complex for Energy System Transformation."

The Senior Connection is putting on our 1st Annual Roadrunner Family Fun Run (walk) September 18, 2010! The Senior Connection touches the lives of over 150 senior citizens per day through vital meals, transportation and other enriching programs.

The Galena Lodge crew are planning a couple of trail work evenings up at Galena Lodge.  Doing this work in the fall has proven to be a great way to improve the trails for the next summer.

Oh man have I been a bad little blogger..!  Nothing new for weeks, well OK, months.  We have been putting an addition on our house which was suppose to be quick and easy, but of course it spawned a whole slew of other upgrades that have consumed most of my summer.  Hopefully the end is in sight.
